King Township Food Bank Centres Open This Saturday

There have been many generous donations and third party events to support the Food Bank, moving into the Christmas season. Nobleton Montessori held a food and funds drive, and shoppers at No Frills were generous in their donations to Pay it Forward, bringing over $600 to the Food Bank. The Schomberg Beer Store held a pop up bottle drive, raising nearly $350.

Merk Photography presented a cheque for $1000 at the Portraits of Giving Reception early in December, and there have been a number of generous personal donations. The King City Seniors Tai Chi class also sent along a donation of cash to help.

Saturday December 8th, King Fire and Emergency Services held a food and boot drive In all three towns In King. While the food donations have not been tallied, a total of nearly $6600.00 was brought in that day. What an amazing team of three teams they are, King’s Fire Fighters! Volunteers from each of the three centres were on hand at Schomberg Foodland, Nobleton’s Alloro Fine Foods and No Frills, and King City’s Coppa’s from 10-3 to accept food and funds.

Rockford’s Grill in King City donated $1,000 and Boye Landscaping in King City and also at No Frills in Nobleton also presented a cheque for $1,000 as part of the KFES campaign.

The North Pole King Substation Pottageville is bustling with last minute preparations to ship the Christmas in King hampers, gifts, turkeys and wreaths in time for this Saturday’s distribution. Thanks are offered to Parks, Recreation and Culture Department for not only allowing use of their building but keeping it toasty warm, and plowing the driveway first thing in the mornings after a snowfall. Hockey Teams, Guide Companies, virtually every church in King, businesses and individuals from all corners are pitching in to support Christmas in King in helping make a Merry Christmas for nearly 220 people this year. Registrations are up from last year, and the generosity of donations of cash and needed items is most welcome. Schomberg Foodland is donating frozen turkeys requested by the Schomberg/Kettleby centre, and the King Firefighters Association is offering birds from their annual Turkey Shoot in cases where the winners request their prize goes to help another family. Again this year, CiK is grateful to BTN for their donation of nearly 50 fresh and lovely wreaths, and to Round The Bend Farm for their repeated generosity by supplying fresh turkeys. They have provided, quite literally, tonnes of turkeys over the years! Sacred Heart Church is the largest donor of gifts; not only do they provide nearly 100 gifts but offer a cheque as well. Their support makes a huge difference in the success of CiK.

This Saturday, December 15th, the three Distribution Centres are open from 9-11 am to serve both Food Bank registrants and Christmas in King registrants. If you need help, please call ahead 905-806-1125 or ktfoodbank@gmail.com so food can be shipped to the appropriate centre in the right quantity for you.

Again, the monthly distribution will have donated produce from Hillside Gardens, along with extra treats from Tim Hortons Schomberg and Dorio’s Kettleby Italian Bakery.

Visit www.ktfb.ca for the latest news and updates, including Distribution Dates, that are always the third Saturday of the month. For January, the date is Saturday January 19th
