Saluting the volunteers of King Township Food Bank

Over the nearly 20 years of involvement with King Township Food Bank, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of volunteers.  Most of our current volunteers have over 5 years of service behind them, a remarkable commitment on their part.  They are proud of the status that King Township Food Bank has achieved entirely through volunteer efforts.

Our volunteers have touched the lives of countless individuals and families in that 20 years, and presently provide a monthly offering of fresh and pantry foods to well over 500 people.  They know there are more who need assistance, and even this morning there was discussion on how could KTFB make sure that everyone in King knows there are friendly dedicated volunteers willing to serve them.  Such is the wish of the volunteers that nobody in King goes hungry!

From an annual budget of a few hundred dollars to one that now exceeds a quarter of a million dollars, volunteers have safely steered the organization to ensure that no one is ever turned away.

Adding the Back to School program and starting up the Giveaway that is now Open Closet have enhanced the activities of the Food Bank in reducing poverty. Adding the annual fundraiser Sip & Savour has helped raise the needed funds to continue to serve those seeking assistance in making ends meet.  All of these have added volunteers to the roster; all are totally volunteer with KTFB.

I salute the volunteers of King Township Food Bank, both past and present (for the past makes the present happen).  Their dedication and willingness to do ‘whatever it takes’ never ceases to amaze me.  I cherish the honour of being associated with such an incredible team.

Join me with a ‘like’ to acknowledge the invaluable contribution they continually make to the quality of life in King Township.

Our Signature Fundraising Event

Sip & Savour

Dubbed as “the cocktail party of the year in King” this gala is the Food Bank’s linchpin fundraiser. The King Township Food Bank, operating entirely on volunteer efforts for almost two decades, has seen a rise in demand by over 50% this year. With these funds, we’ll continue our mission, supplying over 500 individuals monthly with non-perishable groceries, fresh produce, food cards, and more, ensuring no one in the community goes hungry.

Community

Back to School

The King Township Food Bank’s Back To School program bridges the educational gap by supplying essential items to students. In 2023, it adeptly distributed supplies across multiple centers, ensuring every child starts the year equipped and ready. Discover how community collaboration and dedication are shaping the future, one backpack at a time.

This truly helps! When shopping I will certainly add some of these. Never thought of pancake mix but why not?!

On it ! Thank you Gary and @ King Township Food Bank

King Township Food Bank offers huge thanks for the ongoing support given by Schomberg Foodland and their shoppers.

Last Christmas, they donated over $3800 in the prepacked grocery bags in addition to very generous support for the annual Firefighters Campaign.

On top of that, shoppers opened their wallets at the checkouts for the in-store Christmas fundraiser that generated over $3700 recently presented to KTFB in the form of Sobeys Food cards.

The 2024 Spring Campaign in store supplied the Food Bank with over $2400 of bagged food, as always selected according to the needs for the prepacked boxes distributed monthly. On a weekly basis, Foodland shoppers continue to purchase and donate food cards, helping KTFB help others make ends meet.

The seasonal prepacked bag program and the food card purchase program have been going for over a decade, with shoppers quietly and generously helping neighbours they don’t even know.

Thank you to Kurt Geiser, Dave, and Foodland shoppers in Schomberg! We salute your community spirit.

Amazing ! Thank you

Wonderful and thank you Schomberg Foodland! King Township Food Bank

Special thanks to King resident Steve Dengler for his ongoing support. Steve, with his father, circumnavigated the North Pole in a Canadian-made helicopter in 2017, a world first. Whenever he speaks to interested groups, he asks that his honorarium be sent to us. The most recent one was from the PROBUS club of Uxbridge. Your accomplishment is truly inspiring and we are very grateful for your support. Thank you!

Thank you for supporting with the Community Food Bank

👋

Amazing 🤩

Volunteering matters. Sharing time, skills, empathy, and creativity is vital to your wellbeing and to the strength of our community. This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate all our volunteers and thank them for their unwavering support and tireless efforts as the backbone of our totally volunteer-run food bank. We couldn't do it what we do without our valuable volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering, please reach out!

Hear from KTFB volunteers Kathy, Bill and Anne. In their words:

"We love meeting new clients and volunteers. Getting to know them and their families each month is such a pleasure! One memorable moment was when we were placing groceries into a senior citizen’s car and she expressed her extreme gratitude to the Food Bank, saying she didn’t know how she could survive without it."

Hear from KTFB volunteer Kerstin Wyndham-West. In her words:

"I started volunteering because after retiring from full-time teaching I finally had time to give back to the community I have called home for the last 30 years. I reached out to the Food Bank to see if I could help, as I am aware that cost of living increases in recent years have caused food prices to skyrocket and many families are struggling to put food on the table. I started out by collecting food donations from local businesses and the King City Fire Department, then by helping to sort food donations at the King Township Food Bank Depot. I then got involved in several fundraising initiatives including sourcing items for the annual Sip and Savour Fundraiser. It is good to know that our collective efforts are helping King Township residents in need."

Hear from KTFB volunteer Susan Heslop. In her words:

"Volunteering and giving back gave me a sense of purpose after retirement especially, when at times you feel like you're not contributing like you once were. It's a wonderful feeling to see others being helped. I'm grateful everyday that I'm able to give back and be in a position to be able to give of my time and resources. It gives me a sense of purpose, and it's helped me grow and learn so much about myself and what I'm capable of."

Hear from KTFB volunteer John Harrison. In his words:

"Wanting to add back to the community I looked for an opportunity that would make a direct impact in people’s lives. The food bank gave me the opportunity as there is a need, and there is no judgement. Anybody and everybody in need is accepted. As John F. Kennedy said, “Every person can make a difference, and every person should try." So I am trying to make a difference, and I hope I am succeeding."
