Saluting the volunteers of King Township Food Bank

Over the nearly 20 years of involvement with King Township Food Bank, I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of volunteers.  Most of our current volunteers have over 5 years of service behind them, a remarkable commitment on their part.  They are proud of the status that King Township Food Bank has achieved entirely through volunteer efforts.

Our volunteers have touched the lives of countless individuals and families in that 20 years, and presently provide a monthly offering of fresh and pantry foods to well over 500 people.  They know there are more who need assistance, and even this morning there was discussion on how could KTFB make sure that everyone in King knows there are friendly dedicated volunteers willing to serve them.  Such is the wish of the volunteers that nobody in King goes hungry!

From an annual budget of a few hundred dollars to one that now exceeds a quarter of a million dollars, volunteers have safely steered the organization to ensure that no one is ever turned away.

Adding the Back to School program and starting up the Giveaway that is now Open Closet have enhanced the activities of the Food Bank in reducing poverty. Adding the annual fundraiser Sip & Savour has helped raise the needed funds to continue to serve those seeking assistance in making ends meet.  All of these have added volunteers to the roster; all are totally volunteer with KTFB.

I salute the volunteers of King Township Food Bank, both past and present (for the past makes the present happen).  Their dedication and willingness to do ‘whatever it takes’ never ceases to amaze me.  I cherish the honour of being associated with such an incredible team.

Join me with a ‘like’ to acknowledge the invaluable contribution they continually make to the quality of life in King Township.

Sip & Savour

Dubbed as “the cocktail party of the year in King” this gala is the Food Bank’s linchpin fundraiser. The King Township Food Bank, operating entirely on volunteer efforts for almost two decades, has seen a rise in demand by over 50% this year. With these funds, we’ll continue our mission, supplying over 500 individuals monthly with non-perishable groceries, fresh produce, food cards, and more, ensuring no one in the community goes hungry.

In 2023, it adeptly distributed supplies across multiple centers, ensuring every child starts the year equipped and ready. Hear from KTFB volunteer Cathy Tremblay. In her words:

"I've been volunteering for over 25 years with various organizations, including the York Region Alzheimer’s society, Big Sisters, and most recently KTFB. My siblings and I inherited the “volunteer” gene from our parents. What really stands out for me are the many clients who are so grateful for the food bank's support, and let us know that."

Nature is indeed the solution to all diseases and sicknesses. Truly, natural remedies do work. If they didn't, pharmaceutical companies wouldn't be studying plants, taking extracts of them, and patenting them as drugs. this is not a claim or lies, I was cured from fibromyalgia and my children from ADHD/ODD by Doctor irebo, just incase you are having any health challenges you can contact his page now!!👇👇 Doctor irebo

Hear from KTFB volunteer Simon Lloyd. In his words:

"I think volunteering is a good way to help out and feel more a part of my community. It's also a way to pay it forward…I've volunteered for multiple causes and organizations over the years but what appeals to me about KTFB is that it's very well run, it's very authentic in that it sticks so well to its mandate, and it makes such a direct impact--it's not just funds being sent to an office somewhere, it's actual boots on the ground directly helping families get healthy food each and every month, for households that may go without otherwise. Plus, once I got involved with this group and met some of the amazing, dedicated volunteers who make it all happen, I really committed to sticking around and hope to for many more years!"

Hear from KTFB volunteer Gary Vogan, who shares a memory from one of his shopping excursions for the food bank. In his words:

"I remember the time I was checking out of a No Frills store when a lovely lady behind me asked who all of the food was for? I said it was for the King Township Food Bank. She paused and asked if she could pay for it. I said that would be very nice. We didn't have a lot of money in the bank so I thanked her again. After she paid the $85 bill, I heard her say, "Wow that makes me feel so good.""

Hear from KTFB volunteer LISA PACE Photography. In her words:

"I’m a believer in giving back to my community. King Township has been an amazing place to live, run a business and raise my girls. I feel so fortunate to be here and didn't know we had a food bank in this area. So it was an eye opener to me to find out people counted on food donations. Being able to help raise money and food donations by using my photography skills has made being a volunteer so rewarding!

I’ve occasionally run photo sessions and asked clients to bring food donations. Over the last few years, I’ve loved being a part of Sip and Savour, where I could use my photography skills and contribute to such an amazing event! I feel if we all could help out a little it would make it so much easier to help others in need."
